Historic Walk Series
Historic Walk series is seven routes throughout Webster Groves that showcase the historically significant homes in each part of town.
- Heart of Webster – Central Webster including the Old Webster Business District
- A Walk in the Park – Webster Park neighborhood
- A New Century in Old Orchard
- The Ridge at Rock Hill Road – just west of the Heart of Webster
- Steps in Time: Northwest Webster
- Defining Moments: Central Webster – just east of the Heart of Webster
- The Vision of Tuxedo Park
Beginning in 2001 with the "Heart of Webster Historic Walk" and completing in 2007 with the Tuxedo Park walk, the series includes a wonderful cross section of our City, both architecturally and sociologically. The Walks highlight houses and other locations because of their architectural merit or their historical significance. They are helping the City of Webster Groves increase awareness of the outdoor architectural museum we call our neighborhoods. They are educational and recreational.
The planning and implementation of these walks is a huge undertaking. The 2 biggest components of the proposal are installing bronze site markers in the side walks along the walk routes and the publishing of a series of brochures describing the walks and the history behind them.
We invite you to put on your comfortable shoes, pick up a brochure and enjoy our neighborhoods for their value today and yesterday.
The markers have been installed along Walk routes in front of each home in the brochure. Brochures describing the walk with a map can be found at Webster Groves City Hall, Webster Groves Library, Webster Groves Chamber of Commerce, Webster Records, or at the Hawken House gift shop. They can also be downloaded from the links on the left.
